This peaceful picturesque harbour situated on Turkey’s Lycian Coast, is overflowing with pretty whitewashed buildings with Bouganvillea tumbling in abundance, numerous quality roof-top restaurants to suit all tastes – blues and jazz, traditional Turkish & English or Italian cuisine, all of which overlook the harbour front. The pretty village has numerous boutique style shops selling jewellerey, antiques,kilns and locally produced arts and pottery. A shopper’s paradise!
The locals are friendly people and are eager to make your holiday a special one. Nothing seems to be too much trouble!
They are very proud of their historic & quaint village & they ensure that the strict building regulations are adhered to. Building in the summer months is strictly forbidden and there are no high rise buildings or hotels to be found.
Kalkan offers a choice of beaches. A large public pebble beach stretches along the harbour front where the water is crystal clear.
Alternatively several local beach clubs are popular; these are cut into the shoreline offering sunbathing,swimming,water sports and food and drink in a relaxed atmosphere. These can be reached by foot or by free taxisand one can spend a lazy day doing as much or as little as they wish.
Alternatively Kapatus Beach is a 10 min Dolmus ride offering a perfect sandy beach positioned on the crescent of a ravine.
Patara, is 15mins away, but is worthy of a visit, 11 miles of unspoilt sand. This is one of Turkeys most famous and photographed beaches set in a area of national parkland,surrounded by ancient Lycian Ruins.
Further a field is the amazing Saklikent gorge with its stunning waterfalls,the ancient ampitheatres at Xanthos/Letoon,the sunken city at Kekova,the tomb of Saint Nicholas at Kale and Meis island (Greek island).
Activities available include, horse riding on Patara beach,walking,paragliding,white water rafting/canoeing,sea fishing,boat excursions,scuba diving,snorkelling,quad and jeep safari's and mountain biking. Travel Details Dolmus (local bus service) is available from the village square along with local taxi's who also provide airport transfers.
