Portballintrae is an idyllic seaside harhour in a village setting and is a short walk from the World Heritage Site of The Giants Causeway and the village of Bushmills - home of the famous distillery with the same name. Our apartment is on the third level (lift access) and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, with uninterupted views over the bay, beach and a working harbour. There is no better place to enjoy the memorable view of the sun setting over the Atlantic from the comfort of your own lounge and hearing the sounds of waves on the beach. Our guests will appreciate the quality and variety of activities, places to see, dining out, and local culture in the locality. Our apartment is associated with the Bayview Hotel, a small hotel which prides itself on its cuisine. Fine food is literally just next door. For those wishing to venture slightly further, Sweenies - an excellent restaurant - is a mere 1 minutes walk. Alternatively Portballintrae Golf Club provides excellent sustinance for hungry golfers - and walkers. In Bushmills, you really must visit The Bushmills Inn. This has an authentic Irish pub atmosphere - peat fires with cosy nooks and crannies - blended with an excellent formal restaurant. You will enjoy a very good meal in memorable surroundings. Further afield the Royal Court Hotel provides a top class Sunday Carvery at an inviting price. Reserve a table at a window for the best sea views anywhere. Not fogetting the Causeway Hotel - at the Giants Causway - which is very popular with the locals. Ramore Head Wine Bar has a very european menu at modest prices There are many other eating establishments to suit all tastes nearby
Out And About
Obviously the Giants Causeway has to be top of your list, followed closely by a tour of Bushmills Distillery. The River Bush is renowned for salmon fishing in season. Rathlin Island - home to about 100 people and thousands of seabirds - is a 6 mile boat trip from Ballycastle. Ballycastle is a worthwhile destination in itself. Other jewels to explore locally are The Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Portbradon, Dunluce Castle, Whitepark Bay and the Glens of Antrim. Check out Portrush with its typical family seaside holiday atmosphere with amusements, promenades and long sandy beaches at the East and west Strands. Proceed futher round 'the triangle' to Portstewart, with its seafront coffe houses and its famous Portstewart Strand - a 2 mile beach with car access. Moving on to Coleraine which is the closest major town having an impressive collection of High Street shops and big town leisure facilities. Shopping towns less than an hour by car include Ballymoney, Ballymena, Antrim and Limavady

Not to forget the many miles of fabulous fairways on local golf couses. Amateur and professional golfers are spoilt for choice. Portballintrae has its own 9 hole links course, the Bushfoot Golf Club (tel +4428 2073 1317) - 2027 yds. There is Royal Portrush (tel +4428 7082 2311)with 2 courses, the Dunluce Links - 6818 yds - and the Valley Links - 6273 yds. The courses at Portstewart are The Town Course (tel +4428 7083 2549)- 4733 yds - the Strand Course (tel +4428 7083 2015) - 6779 yds. There are also 9 hole courses at Portstewart and Ballyreagh. Within a 1 hour drive there are over 20 different courses to suit any handicap.
