Property Details
This Napoleon III style house is situated on 2 acres of lanscaped gardens. The ground floor offers 2 beautiful reception rooms with wood paneling, Versailles parquet floors, period crystal chandeliers and oriental rugs besides a modern kitchen adjoining the dining room. A monumental Victorian staircase leads to the first floor rooms; they are four in number each with attached full bathroom, they are furnished in antique furniture except for the king or queen size beds. The basement is fully finished and can be reached by the "servant stair case": it offers a live-in kitchen with exposed stone work and beams besides a professional gas-fired range for gourmet cooking.
The adjoining games room (American billiard, table football, darts) as well as the kitchen are level with the gardens. By Spring 2004, a private heated swimming pool(6 X 13 m or 20 X 44 ft) will be operational, the location will come as a surprise.
The gardens offer graveled shaded walkways, shaded and sunny lawn spots, a badminton court and "boules" area.Bikes and a canoe are on offer also. Area Details The area is called Aquitaine and may be better known as Gascony
It is very rich in historical landmarks from Roman times to XIX century industrial sites. It is also the region which puzzles American dieteticians: the region of foie gras, goose confit and red wine AND no obesity or heart infarcts.
We have many rivers and canals for leisure boating, canoeing and many trails for hiking or biking ( on the road to Santiago).
The country side consists of rolling hills between two parallel rivers , no polluting industries but extended vineyards and sunflower fields ( a beauty in July August).
Medieval towns some behind their original walls, castles, specialized museums(armagnac, goose liver, cork industry, Agen prunes...),churches are too numerous to list and are for you to discover.
Handicrafts range from the mundane glassworks to the less known Japanese calligraphy or weathervane construction.
For the more adventurous we are two hours from the Ocean, the Pyrenees mountains, Basque Country, the Bordeaux Wine regions, Rocamadour or the prehistoric sites of Les Eyzies or Lascaux. Travel Details The house is situated near the center of a small town with all services within walking distance: small shopping center, doctors, pharmacies, car repair, newspaper, post office...
The town is one hour by motorway from either Toulouse or Bordeaux, both having an International airport. We are 25 mn from Agen the local administrative center(30,000 inhabitants) which is connected in 4 h to Paris by train (TGV). Locally it is best to have a rental car as bus connections are not fantastic.
