Property Details
This old Catalan farmhouse, beautifully restored and modernised has a large terrace with stunning views over the Pyrenees and the bay of Roses. Behind the house which is overlooked by an old chapel is a national park - a mountainside covered in wildflowers. The land around the house has fruit trees, an idyllic hammock and a fresh stream in the rainy season. There are two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom(suitable for children) and a bunkbed and single bed in the fourth bedroom. The master bedroom has an ensuite mosaic tiled bathroom. There is a porch area at the ground floor level for lunchtime alfresco dining. The house is at the top of a lovely little village with all the local shops you need and two good restaurants too. The beautiful costal town of Cadaques is only 45mintues away. The nearest beach (and there are beatiful beaches all along this coast) is 5km away and the Pyrenees are less than an hour's drive away. The house is not only in the heart of Dali county but is also close to El Bulli and the many fine restaurants which it has inspired.
There are golf courses near by, the nearest of which is at Peralada and there is a waterpark and go karting wihin ten minutes drive. Area Details Palau Saverdera is located about 20 minutes drive from Figueres and the junction of the A7 which takes you down to Girona(15 mins) and Barcelona (1hr 30mins) or up to Perpignan (1 hr. Airports are located in all three towns with flights on Ryan Air, Buzz and EasyJet. The coastal town of Roses is about 4 km away and has many restaurants and shops and a long sandy beach. For a less developed beach try San Marti D'Empuries (half hour) or San Pere Pescador(half hour) with its fine sandy beach and not a restuarant or shop in sight! The fabulous Michelin three star restaurant El Bulli is very nearbyas are the many fine restaurants it has inspired.
Visitor in September 2002: "well... what a great time we had - we were very grateful and feel lucky we picked the right place out of so many on the internet!...
We had a lovely time at Can Rottlan! ...when we woke up to the sun shining and the lovely view that we realised how nice it was! The people in the village are really friendly and we managed to get on alright with my boyfriend speaking French to them (as neither of us speak spanish). We went a couple of time to Rhodas and to Terra Nostra and once to Mas Pau all or which were lovely (especially the lamb at Rhodas!). We drove around a lot (put about 1200 kms on the clock) and went up to Nuria on the ratchet railway which was really good! We also went to the Monestir de St. Pere and around the coast to Cadaques and Roses. We had good weather nearly all the time and took over 300 photo's! ..We were lucky we had my purse and phone with us but it was still quite upsetting - we should have stayed in Palau it's safer up there - I don't like cities anyway! We also spent a couple of hours at the Salvador Dali museum which was really good. Anyway, we both had a really good time. My boyfriend must have said a hundred times during the week why did we have to go back and couldn't we just live in Can Rottlan and work from home! (I think that means he liked it!)" Michelle Andrew October 2002
"We often talk about Can Rottlan - it really made an impression - the best place we've ever stayed!" Michelle Andrew February 2003
